Lou and Muz, An Alternative Handfasting at Danby Castle by Whitby

Lou and Muz are naturals in front of the camera; both are alternative models who have been involved in various alt wedding shoots. These images are the real deal, capturing their real wedding and alternative handfasting at Danby Castle by Whitby, North Yorkshire.

Lou’s sister Jo, who was Maid of Honour, is my daughter-in-law, and I have known Lou for many years. When Muz and Lou started dating, he became another family member. Being asked to capture their day because they liked my style of photography was an honour.

Both of them looked amazing in their outfits created for them by fellow alt wedding supplier Zoe from Scarlet Tayla, with Muz’s shoes by Jeffrey West adding to their green and black themed outfits.

Whitby is a special place for the bride and groom

Whitby is a special place for Lou and Muz as it is where they first met. Strangely, both of them have family living here in Whitby, and they chose Danby Castle Barn as their venue, with family members and friends coming from other places to share their special day with them.

It was a family involved day with the venue beautifully decorated by Muz’s sister Rose from Fern Cottage Creations, including centrepieces with special places named on them, and a fabulous wedding arch. Their wedding and handfasting ceremony was created by Ellie from Alternative Ceremonies UK who is their sister in law’s Mom.

Lou’s parents proudly walked her down the aisle. Lou’s Bridesmaid was Rose (Muz’s sister), and their niece and nephew (our Grandson) were the flower girl and the flower boy. Muz’s Groomsmen and Best Man Andy are his friends.

The ceremony featured many Disney quotes, as Lou is a fan of Disney, with Disney music played during the event. Their dads took part in a Whiskey ceremony to welcome them to each other’s family using a special bottle Muz had been saving for the occasion.

The castle ruins made a great backdrop for some of their wedding images. The barn was the ideal place to capture Muz and his Groomsmen after the ceremony.

As they aren’t strangers to being photographed, we managed to get some atmospheric shots with the dark clouds and rain not stopping them from enjoying their day.

The day was filled with love for Lou and Muz, who made sure everyone was catered for and looked after. Thank you, Lou and Muz for asking me to capture your day. You both looked fantastic.
